Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about licensing, our training program, Deaf Friendly Certification, and how to work with TCS Real Estate International.
Getting Licensed
Can a Deaf person become a licensed real estate agent?
Yes. Deaf individuals can become licensed real estate agents in all 50 states. The licensing process, including pre-licensing education, the state exam, and post-licensing requirements, is open to everyone. Many states offer ADA accommodations for the exam, including extended time, separate testing rooms, and the use of interpreters.
TCS Real Estate International provides ASL-first courses and exam prep designed specifically for the Deaf community. You can also read our in-depth guide: Can a Deaf Person Become a Realtor?
What states does TCS cover for exam prep?
All 50 states. Our ASL Real Estate Prep Course includes practice exams, flashcards, and study modes tailored to each state's licensing exam. Select your state and start practicing right away.
How do I request ADA accommodations for my real estate exam?
To request ADA accommodations for your real estate licensing exam, follow these steps:
- Contact your state's real estate commission or the testing provider (such as PSI or Pearson VUE).
- Submit a written request along with documentation of your disability.
- Specify the accommodations you need, such as extended time, a separate testing room, an ASL interpreter, or assistive technology.
- Allow several weeks for the approval process.
Start the request process early to avoid delays. For a detailed walkthrough, see our guides: How to Request ADA Exam Accommodations and Real Estate Exam ADA Accommodations.
How long does it take to get licensed?
The timeline varies by state, but most people complete the process in two to six months. This includes completing pre-licensing education, passing the state exam, and submitting your license application. Some states require more coursework hours than others, which can extend the timeline.
TCS Real Estate International provides a state-by-state guide to help you understand the specific requirements where you plan to practice.

The certification is included with your TCS Training Program membership.
Do I need to know ASL to earn the certification?
No, you do not need to know ASL to earn the Deaf Friendly Certification. The program teaches key communication strategies, cultural awareness, and practical approaches for serving Deaf clients effectively.
While learning ASL is always encouraged, the certification focuses on building cultural competence and understanding the needs of the Deaf community in real estate transactions.
